India chased down a score of 154 with seven wickets and 16 balls to spare thanks to 117 runs from Rohit and KL Rahul. With one boundary and five sixes smashed, Rohit made 55 off just 36 balls. Meanwhile, India’s leading scorer, Rahul, smashed a 49-ball 65 that included six fours and two sixes.

In the shortest format of the game, Rohit’s innings saw him tie Virat Kohli’s record of 29 half-centuries. When it came to T20I appearances, Kohli had reached the milestone after 91 matches, but he did so in his 118th.

When it came to shorter formats, Rahul hit his 16th fifty. India now leads the three-match series 2-0 thanks to the match-winning duo of Rohit and Rahul.

India won the series when Rishabh Pant hit back-to-back sixes against James Neesham.

Earlier, New Zealand scored 153/6, a total that was below par, despite openers Martin Guptill (31/15) and Daryl Mitchell’s solid starts (31 off 28).

The Kiwis were led by Glenn Phillips, who hit 34 off just 21 balls to lead the team in scoring.

The bowler Harshal Patel, making his international debut, was given the game’s “Man of the Match” after finishing with figures of 2/25 from his quota of four overs.

In preparation for a two-match Test series beginning on November 25, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the penultimate T20I on Sunday.
