Karan KC, a fast bowler for Nepal, devised a novel tactic to beat Yashasvi Jaiswal in their quarterfinal match at the Asian Games in 2023.
On Tuesday, during the quarterfinals of the men’s cricket tournament at the Asian Games 2023, Nepali fast bowler Karan KC astonished the cricket world by devising a novel tactic to counter Indian cricket team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Karan decided to bowl a delivery during the ninth over of the Indian innings from a spot near the umpire’s stand and much behind the popping crease. Jaiswal was caught off guard by the delivery and failed to hit it before being caught by the wicketkeeper. The commentators and Jaiswal both seemed surprised. Jaiswal stood stock still for a time, his hand on his hips.
Jaiswal hit seven sixes in his first T20 century, helping India’s men beat Nepal by 23 runs in their opening game of the Asian Games.
By thrashing Hong Kong by 68 runs, with veteran all-rounder Khushdil Shah taking 3-13, Pakistan also advanced to the semifinals.
India, the best Twenty20 team in the world, has a second-string side in Hangzhou since its superstars, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are back in India for the one-day World Cup, which begins on Thursday.
But it is still formidable, with many players with international experience and a number of talented young players who have thrived in the Indian Premier League.
They batted first after winning the toss and ended up scoring 202-4 thanks to a century from Jaiswal (49 balls) and some late fireworks from Rinku Singh (37 not out) and Shivam Dube (25 not out).
After pounding Mongolia for a record 314 runs in the qualifying stages, Nepal could only muster 179 runs in response, with Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi each claiming three wickets.
