Kieron Pollard joined the Mumbai Indians in 2010, and his fiery all-around performances quickly established him as a valuable member of the team.

The entire cricket community was startled when Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League. The former West Indies captain, who was instrumental in Mumbai Indians’ triumph in the lucrative league, made the decision to hang up his playing boots on Tuesday. Starting with the 2023 season, the all-rounder will assume the position of batting coach for the team. In 2010, Pollard became a member of the Mumbai team. His ferocious all-around performances quickly established him as a valuable member of the team. Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai, sent a sincere message to Pollard after hearing the news of his retirement.

Rohit shared a photo of him and Pollard on Instagram with the remark, “Large man, significant effect, and heartfelt play throughout. @kieron.pollard55 is a real MI legend.”

In addition to him, famed Indian batter and coach of the Mumbai Indians Sachin Tendulkar posted on Twitter, “There is never a farewell at @mipaltan, Polly. Congratulations on being hired as the MI team’s new batting coach. You will have a significant impact on all the boys in the dugout.”

Jasprit Bumrah, an Indian paceman, had earlier shared a touching message on the occasion, remembering his time spent with the Caribbean all-rounder.

Bumrah posted on Instagram, saying, “I’ll still love our banter in the nets, but it will take some getting accustomed to not having you out there with us on the field. Polly, thank you for an amazing career, and best wishes for your upcoming season.”

Pollard’s retirement was announced just hours before the IPL franchises were scheduled to submit their list of “released and retained” players for the 2023 edition of the competition.

After being signed by the Mumbai Indians in 2010, Pollard has played for Mumbai for 13 consecutive seasons without appearing for any other team. In April of this year, he ended his career abroad.
