First T20I between India and the West Indies, featuring Hardik Pandya

While listening to the national anthem before India’s first Twenty20 International against the West Indies, Hardik Pandya became visibly moved.

During Thursday’s national anthem before India’s first Twenty20 International against the West Indies, captain Hardik Pandya became visibly emotional. Pandya was photographed wiping away tears during the playing of the national anthem in Tarouba, Trinidad, and the image has since gone viral on social media. With two wickets apiece, Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh held West Indies to a respectable 149 for the loss of six. Even though WI captain Rovman Powell batted 48 and Nicholas Pooran slammed a quickfire 41, the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Tilak Varma, a twenty-year-old hitter, made his India debut Thursday when the West Indies won the toss and elected to bat in the opening game of a five-game Twenty20 series.

Mukesh Kumar, a seamer, made his international debut for India in the second Test last month and went on to participate in the ODI and T20 series.

India sent all three of their spinners, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal, to the Brian Lara Stadium for the match.

The visitors defeated the West Indies 2-1 in one-day internationals after winning the preceding two-Test series by a score of 1-0.

Rovman Powell (captain), Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy, and Brandon King represent the West Indies in this match.

India’s roster of Hardik Pandya (captain), Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Ishan Kishan.
