Dinesh Karthik praised Kuldeep Yadav after Yadav grabbed four wickets on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh.

After the opening day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at Chattogram, the Indian team, led by KL Rahul, is in command. On Day 2, India’s left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav excelled with the bat and the ball, putting Bangladesh in a precarious position. Kuldeep contributed 40 runs to India’s first innings total of 404 and then picked up 4-33 as Bangladesh fell to 133-8 by stumps. Mohammad Siraj’s 3-14 shook the confidence of Bangladesh’s top order, but Kuldeep’s left-arm spin (he was a late replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the series) captivated the home crowd.

Dinesh Karthik commended him for his work. “He delivered the crucial second ball to Shakib Al Hasan, a world-class spinner, and it was the defining moment for me. Even when facing a spinner, he can handle it. He took a calculated risk and stepped out to hit the ball, but it sank just enough in the front to cause him to play the wrong stroke. Excellent bowling, by all accounts. Kuldeep’s confidence would have been boosted by that ball, marking the beginning of his spell “Karthik commented on Cricbuzz.

“From that vantage point, the raging waters of Kuldeep could be seen in all their glory. When he bats, even the best hitters worry about him. As you can see, the batters who came after him had a lot of trouble with him. Positively encouraging, indeed. That’s fantastic news for India no matter where they play, but especially in their upcoming series against Australia. As time goes on, he’ll become a useful tool.”

Bangladesh’s score dropped to 75-5 as Kuldeep struck with his second delivery when he got captain Shakib Al Hasan to give up a catch to slip fielder Virat Kohli for three.

India took command of the match when the 28-year-old spinner took out Nurul Hasan (16), Mushfiqur Rahim (28), and Taijul Islam (0).
