After Richie Benaud’s renowned leg-spin, Pat Cummins became the first bowler of any kind to captain Australia. As a result, all of Australia’s last 18 captains have been batting in the top seven positions.
Pat Cummins used the words “unexpected” and “honored” in his statement following his selection as Australia’s 47th Test captain ahead of the Ashes series. And he has a good reason to say that.. Cummins referred to his appointment as an unexpected one because he is the first-ever fast bowler in Australian cricket’s 144-year history to head a Test team as full-time captain. Australia’s first Test match was held in 1877, more than a century ago. Tim Paine has resigned as Australia’s Test captain and Cummins will lead the team in the first Ashes Test against England, which begins on December 8 in Brisbane.

Steve Smith, the former captain of Australia, will serve as Cummins’ deputy. After the the’sandpapergate’ incident in South Africa in 2018, the right-handed hitter returned to the leadership group.
“For the past few years, Tim (Paine) has been the group’s leader, and I want to be able to follow in his footsteps. Steve and I are captains, along with several other experienced players, and we have a lot of promising young talent in our ranks “Cummins was tacked on.
Bowler No. 1 has to ensure that the controversy surrounding Paine doesn’t affect the squad when they take to the field.
Paine declared that he would be taking a vacation from all forms of cricket just a few hours before Cummins’ appointment. An allegation that a female colleague exchanged sexually explicit texts with the wicketkeeper-batter in 2017 prompted him to resign as Test captain a week ago.
