At stumps on the day, one of their Ranji Trophy Group D encounters against Vidarbha in Indore on Tuesday, reigning champions Madhya Pradesh were 234 for six. This was thanks in large part to a performance of 121 from Rajat Patidar. Vidarbha skipper Faiz Fazal put MP in to bat, and the team quickly ran into trouble after losing their openers and Shubham Sharma in the first 10 overs. Yash R Thakur dismissed opener Yash Dubey for 2 with a leg-before wicket catch, and Lalit Yadav did the same to opener Himanshu Mantri for 7.

After only four balls, the home team was in deep difficulty after Shubham Sharma (1) was removed.

One of the shining lights of MP’s Ranji Trophy championship team, Patidar delivered. He added 74 runs with captain Aditya Shrivastava (34), which helped bring the innings back.

The 202-ball combination ensured MP’s comeback. Patidar, who played it safe at first, and Saransh Jain (45 not out) put Madhya Pradesh on pace for a respectable total with a century stand.

After putting up a valiant fightback, Vidarbha finally achieved a big breakthrough when Patidar was out LBW to Lalit Yadav (2/37) in the 89th over.
