While playing in the field during the second ODI against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma took a knock to his thumb. We’re scanning him right now to make sure.

During Wednesday’s second one-day international against Bangladesh in Mirpur, India’s cricket team had a major injury scare when skipper Rohit Sharma was hit in the thumbs while fielding. He was evaluated by the BCCI medical staff and is currently undergoing scans. A second over into Bangladesh’s innings was when the injury occurred. While attempting to hit Mohammed Siraj’s fourth delivery of the over-the-slip cordon, Anamul Haque had the ball kicked up in the air. Second slip where Rohit tried to make the catch and hurt his thumb. They took him off the field and replaced him with Rajat Patidar right away.

The BCCI later tweeted, “India Captain Rohit Sharma suffered a blow to his thumb while fielding in the 2nd ODI. The BCCI Medical Team evaluated him. He has now gone for scans.”

Before Wednesday’s play at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh captain Litton Das won the toss and was elected to bat first against India in the second of three One-Day Internationals. In order to improve their chances of winning the crucial match, India made a few substitutions. India’s first one-day international loss in the three-game series was by the slimmest of margins, only one wicket.

Rohit Sharma, speaking at the toss, said, “We have two changes. Axar Patel is back and he replaces Shahbaz Ahmed. Kuldeep Sen is not eligible for selection, so we have got Umran Malik in their place of him. Going back to the drawing board and understanding how we need to play on these conditions, just the fundamental chat about what we need to do with the bat and how to manage specific bowlers. Had a terrific training session yesterday, and hopefully, we can come out and recreate those

The reasons for Kuldeep’s exclusion were explained in further depth later by BCCI. The BCCI tweeted, “Kuldeep Sen complained of back stiffness following the first ODI on Sunday. The BCCI Medical Team inspected him and has advised him to rest.” Sen was therefore unavailable for the second one-day international.
