Against the West Indies, Mohammad Rizwan again proved to be a key player in Pakistan’s 63-run victory in the first Twenty20 International on Monday.
For Pakistani T20I opener Mohammad Rizwan, the year 2021 has been a dream come true. Rizwan has scored the most runs in T20I history with 1,201 in 27 games at an average of 75.06, including 11 fifties and a century so far this calendar year. This year, Rizwan’s opening partner and Pakistan captain Babar Azam is second in the calendar year run-scoring chart. To date, Babar has appeared in 27 games this year, scoring a total of 853 runs, including 8 half-centuries.
Against the West Indies on Monday, Rizwan made sure he would hold the record for most fifty-plus scores in a calendar year even though Pakistan only has two more T20I matches left in 2021.
Babar Azam is second on the list with eight fifties, but he can only score 10 half-centuries.
Both Rizwan and Babar were outstanding throughout the T20 World Cup, finishing in the top three in terms of runs scored. In the T20 World Cup 2021, Babar was the top run-scorer with 303 runs, followed by Mohammad Rizwan (281 runs) in third place.
With 289 runs in the tournament, Australia’s David Warner helped his nation win their first T20 World Cup title.
It was a 63-run victory for Pakistan over the West Indies in Karachi on Monday night. It was also the first time in the history of the league that a home side had amassed more than 18 victories in a calendar year.
