In the 2013 IPL, Ricky Ponting joins Jasprit Bumrah in celebrating a wicket against RCB.

Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin through YouTube, Jasprit Bumrah said that he had bowled out Ricky Ponting “two or three times” during his Mumbai Indians (MI) call-up in 2013.

One of the best bowlers in the world today, Jasprit Bumrah is also the Indian cricket team’s leading paceman in all formats. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Mumbai Indians, he first gained national prominence (MI). Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2013 and has since bagged 130 wickets in 106 outings for Mumbai Indians in the tournament. He’s also the IPL’s tenth-highest wicket-taker with 28 wickets. “Two or three times,” Bumrah said in an interview with Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel regarding his first call-up to the MI camp, when he disclosed that he bowled out Ricky Ponting in training.

When Bumrah was called up to the MI squad, Ponting was also the team’s captain. Rohit Sharma replaced Ponting as MI captain in 2013.

“Basically, Axar Patel and I arrived late to the Mumbai Indians camp and would not be able to play in the first game. We were taking part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. We arrived at the camp a few minutes after our scheduled arrival time “, he commented.

“Two days of practice with the squad in Bangalore was all we had time for. The practice wickets over there were very green, and the white ball used to swing back in 2013. Consequently, I was bowling with the new ball. I used to bowl those huge inswingers for Ricky Ponting when we were both playing bowls. In the end, they decided that ‘this man had something different and let’s play him’ because of my disruptive antics “He went on to say that he had more to say.

Bumrah made his India debut on January 23, 2016, in an ODI match, following his success in the Indian Premier League. On January 26 of the same year, he made his T20I debut as well. On January 6, 2018, the bowler took the field for the first time in a Test match.
