In the first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, defending champions Mumbai Indians will compete at Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on September 19.

In the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 resumed on September 19, defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) will play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai, the Indian cricket board announced in an official release on Sunday. The stage of the League concludes on October 8 with the last match being played by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The 1st qualification will be placed on 10 October in Dubai. The Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be played respectively in Sharjah on 11 and 13 October, stated the BCCI. On October 15, Dubai will host the final.

RCB will compete with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Abu Dhabi, following the match between the MI and CSK. On 24 September, Sharjah is hosting its maiden match with RCB taking on CSK.

A total of thirteen matches are held in Dubai, ten in Sharjah, and eight in Abu Dhabi.

When the league was postponed on the 4th of May due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the bio-bubble competition, the DC and Punjab Kings were the only teams to have played eight matches, with all the others playing seven matches.

DC leads the table with 12 points, while CSK and RCB with 10 points apiece close behind. MI is the fourth with 8 points and wants to progress up the table.

MI is followed by PBKS, Rajasthan Royals, KKR, and SunRisers Hyderabad, which languish with only one victory in the season at the bottom of the league.
