For the 2023 ICC World Cup, the former India opener had some intriguing options.

When assessing India’s likely roster for the ICC World Cup 2023, former India opener Wasim Jaffer thought Shikhar Dhawan would be a solid addition but left out spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. In addition to Ishan Kishan, Jaffer listed KL Rahul and Sanju Samson as wicket-keeping options. Jaffer included three spin bowlers in his team, all of whom bowl left-handed, with Kuldeep Yadav a possible returnee. On October 8, India will host Australia for their first game of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shikhar Dhawan will be my opening trio. Shikhar Dhawan will not be selected, but I will keep him as a backup opener anyhow. I don’t care if he doesn’t play right away,” Jaffer remarked on Jio Cinema.

After that, Virat Kohli is the obvious choice for third. Rankings: #4 Shreyas Iyer, #5 KL Rahul, #6 Hardik Pandya. He continued, “I’ll have three spinners in my XI — Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.

His strategy was rather predictable in terms of the pace of attack.

I will be starting with Jasprit Bumrah and either Mohammed Siraj or Mohammed Shami in my XI. I’m going with Bumrah and Siraj, two of my seamers. In my opinion, having Hardik Pandya bowl at the World Cup in India is crucial. If he only bowls seven or eight overs, that’s fine with me.

If he bowls, I’ll aim to field three spinners, with Axar and Jadeja both getting looks due to their versatility. Kuldeep is the obvious choice for my third spinner. Shardul Thakur will be my fourth sailor. I’ve decided to utilize Shikhar as my third batter and my backup keeper Sanju Samson.
