After a meeting of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Board of Directors, Andre Coley was appointed Interim Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s team for the upcoming Zimbabwe and South Africa tours.

In a recent meeting, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Board of Directors appointed Andre Coley as Interim Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s team for the upcoming Zimbabwe and South Africa tours. In a press release, CWI stated that Coley would be in charge of the forthcoming two-Test tour of Zimbabwe (beginning on 28 January and ending on 16 February), as well as the upcoming two-Test, three-One-Day International (ODI), and three Twenty20 International (T20I) tour of South Africa (beginning on 21 February and ending on 28 March).

At the completion of the recent two-match Test series in Australia, Simmons resigned from his long-term position as coach of the Caribbean side.

Coley’s arrival is timely for the West Indies, who had struggled recently and were knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in the first round.

The new head coach has extensive expertise in the field, having served as an assistant coach for the national women’s team and as Simmons’ assistant during the West Indies’ triumphant run to the 2016 Men’s T20 World Cup title.

Coley, who is now leading the CWI Academy team, was an assistant coach for the winning Jamaica Tallawahs team in the Caribbean Premier League.

“We are happy to have Andre back in the West Indies locker room, where his extensive understanding of the sport, talent for managing players, willingness to put in long hours of effort, and focus on the smallest of details will serve him well. He has coached at every level of the CWI High-Performance Pathway, making him exceptionally well-rounded. This has equipped him for the task at hand, and we anticipate that he will once again approach this new role with the same vigor and fire that characterized his time in the CWI coaching system and gained the respect of players and everyone with whom he has engaged with “ICC cites Adams as saying this.

In February, Coley will make his debut with the West Indies for their two-match Test series in Zimbabwe. The former wicketkeeper-batsman will also have the chance to prove his worth for the top position during a two-Test and white-ball tour to South Africa in February and March.

“I have no doubt that the players see the potential in both series and are motivated to make a positive impact on our team’s performance. I’m excited for upcoming travels and the chance to make a real difference in West Indies cricket’s development “said Coley.
