After India’s 10-wicket loss to Pakistan on Sunday, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag stepped forward to defend paceman Mohammed Shami from online trolls. After Shami’s 0/43 in 3.5 overs, he was the target of a lot of ridicule.

Mohammad Rizwan dropped Shami all over the place in Dubai after a poor outing by the Indian pacer on Sunday. Pakistan went on to win by 152 runs. When India and Pakistan played in the previous T20 World Cups, India had won all five matches. However, Pakistan ruthlessly ended India’s dominance by defeating them by a score of 10 wickets and setting the tone early in the tournament.

Shami has also received encouragement from India’s legendary fast bowler Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan tweeted, “We love you @MdShami11!”

Yuzvendra Chahal, a leg-spinner who has shared the field with Shami on numerous occasions, also lent his support to the paceman on Twitter. ‘We’re so proud of you, @MdShami11 bhaiya,’ Chahal wrote.

Having finished as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League with 19 scalps from 14 games, Shami was selected for the ICC T20 World Cup squad after a successful season in the IPL.

India will play New Zealand in their next T20 World Cup match.
