The director of cricket for the Gujarat Titans has expressed his confidence in a young Indian batsman to replace Hardik Pandya as captain of the squad in the Indian Premier League.
IPL team director of cricket Vikram Solanki said on Thursday that young Indian opener Shubman Gill has a “sharp cricketing brain” and has the potential to become a future leader of the Gujarat Titans because of his demeanor and work ethic. Because of his consistent performance, including a double century in one-day internationals against New Zealand, Gill has become an essential member of the Indian team in the last six months or so. In addition, he contributed to the Gujarat Titans’ 2017 championship run. Gill is seen as a leader within the core group, alongside Pandya, who will continue as GT captain in their second IPL season.
