Shikhar Dhawan
IPL 2023: Shikhar Dhawan of the Punjab Kings in action

It appears as if Shikhar Dhawan may soon surpass both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in an important IPL statistic.

If Shikhar Dhawan scores fifty or more against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday in the Indian Premier League 2023, he will join a rare group that includes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It is possible that the Punjab Kings captain would become the first Indian hitter to reach 50 half-centuries in IPL history. Rohit has scored 42 half-centuries so far, compared to 47 for Kohli. Dhawan has been in excellent form so far in IPL 2023, scoring two fifty-plus scores in three matches. PBKS will be counting on him to continue this streak by getting off to a strong beginning.

The Dhawan-led Punjab Kings got off to a great start this season with two victories, but they have now lost two in a row because they have been unable to put up competitive totals.

Even with Shahrukh Khan’s nine-ball 22, the Gujarat Titans only managed 153 for 8 as Shikhar Dhawan was left to carry the team’s batting load against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The failure of PBKS to score quickly in the overs between 10 and 15 was the primary cause of their disappointing total. They averaged 56 dot balls per game, so that’s an area where they need to improve.

Not a lot of runs were scored by us. Moving ahead, we must make that correction. “If you see the number of dot balls, if a team plays 56 balls, you end up losing the game,” Dhawan had said following their defeat.

Dhawan has been the most influential player thus far, scoring 40, 86, and 99 in the first three innings, but the inconsistency of the other batters is a cause for concern.
