Fans booed Gautam Gambhir and chanted “Virat Kohli” after LSG lost to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator this week.

One of the most memorable incidents of IPL 2023 was the heated spat between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Immediately following the May 1 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants, an altercation broke out. Since then, fans have been directing their anti-Kohli chants at ex-RCB captain Gautam Gambhir and LSG Naveen-ul-Haq, who both got into it on the field during the game. The audience in Chennai was shouting Kohli’s name after LSG fell to Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator earlier this week, while Gambhir was chatting with batting great and MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar.

After Gambhir’s team was knocked out of IPL 2023 on Wednesday, he resorted to social media to share a heartfelt message.

Defeated but not out! Many, many thanks to the devoted audience. It’s not the last time you’ll see us! Gupta Gambhir tweeted.

In the IPL Eliminator, Mumbai Indians absolutely outplayed LSG, winning by 81 runs owing in large part to a five-wicket haul from promising rookie bowler Akash Madhwal.

Given Lucknow’s tremendous batting firepower, Mumbai Indians’ 182 for 8 in 20 overs seemed 15 short. However, thanks to Madhwal’s unbelievable figures of 3.3-0-5-5 and some excellent ground fielding led by captain Rohit Sharma, the Gautam Gambhir-mentored side collapsed for 101 in 16.3 overs.
