This year’s IPL leading wicket-taker Harshal Patel is poised to set a new T20 league record. There are only three wickets separating the Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer, who has 30 for the season, and Dwayne Bravo’s record of most wickets in an IPL edition. When he played for the Chennai Super Kings, Bravo took 32 wickets. Harshal will be in action against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday for RCB in an eliminator match. In the other semifinal, the victorious team will face the Delhi Capitals, who fell to Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier on Sunday.

Harshal had already set a new IPL record for most wickets taken by an Indian player in a single season. With a three-wicket haul against SunRisers Hyderabad, the seamer surpassed Jasprit Bumrah’s 2020 cash-rich league record of 27 wickets taken.

In the current edition, Harshal has been on a record-breaking tear. The number of wickets he took in a season is also a record for an uncapped bowler.

Harshal, who represents Haryana in domestic cricket, is well-positioned to take home the Purple Cap at the season’s end. To put it another way, he has seven more wickets than the man in second place for the Purple Cap, Avesh Khan (23 wickets).

Many Indian fans have called for his inclusion in the India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman from October 17 to November 14 due to his prolific performances this season.

Harshal was omitted from the 15-man Indian squad announced last month, as well as the three reserves.
