IPL 2021: Franchises were informed at a briefing in Chennai on Wednesday that Mark Wood had decided to exit the auction to spend time with his family at home.

England’s Mark Wood has withdrawn his name from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Player Auction, which is scheduled to be held in Chennai on Thursday. According to ESPNcricinfo, the franchisees were informed in a briefing in Chennai on Wednesday that the fast bowler had decided to exit the auction to spend time with his family at home. INR 2 crores are the highest reserve price and Wood was among the eight foreign players who chose to be placed in the highest bracket.

In addition, Wood and wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow joined the England team in Chennai ahead of the third Test against India on Wednesday. The third Test starts on February 24 and will be a day-night affair in Ahmedabad.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had said, “The pair have re-homed England’s men’s cricket team at home.” The pair “also attended their first training session after coming out of quarantine.”

On Tuesday, India equalized the four-match Test series 1–1 against England after a 317-run win in the second Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

India are in contention for a place in the final of the ICC World Test Championship after winning a stunning victory over England in the second Test to draw in a four-match series.

The victory pushed India to second place on the points table with 69.7 percent, but they could not lose another match as they had to win 2–1 or 3–1 to reach the final of the first edition of the championship…
