Rodney Marsh, Australia’s legendary wicketkeeper, was airlifted from Bundaberg to a major hospital in “serious but stable condition” after having a heart attack last week. On February 24, the 74-year-old had a heart attack while driving to a charity event in Bundaberg, Queensland. On Monday, “Marsh was transferred interstate in a critical but stable condition,” according to a spokesman for Bundaberg Hospital. According to the news, Marsh was transferred to Adelaide so that he could be closer to his family.

Between 1970 and 1984, the wicketkeeper-batsman made 355 wicketkeeping dismissals in 96 Test matches for Australia and went to Adelaide two decades ago when he was hired as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy.

In a statement on Sunday, Marsh’s son Paul, the former CEO of the Australian Cricketers’ Association, said that Marsh “is now fighting for his life.” This is a waiting game, for the time being, he continued, and he did not expect any answers for some time.

“Our family has been astounded by the outpouring of love and support for dad’s situation, which we know is widely publicized. Each and every one of them has been thoroughly enjoyed by us.” The Bulls Masters charity event’s organizers had rushed Marsh to the hospital.

The Bulls Masters team, in particular Jimmy Maher, Darren Lehmann, Ian Healy, and Allan Border, showed great love and care for the family, according to the statement.

A former chair of selectors for Australia, Marsh stepped down from that role in 2016.
