Sunil Gavaskar believes that Sanju Samson could benefit from working on his temperament.
Sanju Samson scored four runs against Punjab Kings on Tuesday in the Regional one-day competition.
To consistently play for India, Samson will have to improve his shot selection.
For IPL 2021, Sanju Samson needs to work on his shot selection to last as a member of the Indian national team.
This time around, Sanju Samson was unable to offer any assistance with the bat in the thrilling finish in the final over of Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) three-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday. With his side setting a target of 185 runs, the RR captain was only able to get four balls in play. By the 20th over, PBKS was just one run away from the target. But the pacer, Kartik Tyagi, had something else in mind. Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda were dismissed in the over in which the youngster took two wickets. Wickets proved to be decisive, as RR emerged victorious by two runs.
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated that if Samson wishes to become a regular member of the Indian national team, he must improve his shot selection. He debuted for India in 2015 but hasn’t played in an ODI or a T20I since.
He is experiencing a wide range of success and failure in the IPL.
Even in international competition, he doesn’t open the batting for them. The second or third wicket down, he looks to drive every ball out of the ground. That is completely impossible. It is even more difficult in international cricket.
His shot selection has to be that much better because, if it isn’t, it would be a massive waste of such God-given talent.
Despite being part of the team that achieved the one-hundredth IPL appearance, Samson is in the middle of the competition, sitting at number seven with 281 runs from eight games.
The Royals will be playing against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
