One hundred Test matches were the first for Virender Sehwag as an Indian player from the city of Delhi. He was the first Indian to score a triple century in a Test match and had a stellar Test career as an opener.

Ex-India captain Virat Kohli has received a flurry of good wishes ahead of his 100th Test match. There have been many eloquent statements from Indian cricket greats and legends on Kohli and his achievements, as well as their thoughts on when they first saw or heard of him. Virender Sehwag, Kohli’s former India colleague and statemate, was one of many to send him his best wishes.

Sehwag spoke on how Kohli will become the third Delhi-based player to play 100 Test matches, following him and Ishant Sharma, in a video published by the BCCI on Twitter. He also expressed his admiration for Kohli’s “unique” approach to Test cricket and congratulated him on his success.

“#TeamIndia great @virendersehwag wishes @imVkohli on his 100th Test in his own unique style,” BCCI captioned the video on Twitter.

Sehwag was the first Delhi player to participate in more than 100 Tests for the Indian national team. ‘ As an opening batsman, he had a stellar career and became the first Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket. With Don Bradman, Brian Lara, and Chris Gayle, he is one of just four batsmen to have scored two triple century in Test cricket.

In the first decade of the new millennium, Virender Sehwag was a key member of the Indian Test team, and his batting at the top of the order helped the team to several notable victories.

When India won the 2011 ICC World Cup, Sehwag and Kohli were teammates.
