Tamil Nadu cricketer Shahrukh Khan played last season for Punjab Kings.

IPL auction Day 1 saw uncapped Indian cricketers Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tripathi fetch prices that were 20 times their starting bids.

It was a good day for Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tripathi at the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday when they were paid more than 20 times their base price. A cricketer from the state of Tamil Nadu, Shahrukh Khan was a member of the Punjab Kings cricket team last season. In five first-class matches thus far, the right-handed batsman has racked up 231 runs at an average of 33. He has made two half-centuries and his best score is 92, which he has not yet surpassed.

Shahrukh played 11 games in the IPL in 2021, his sole season there, and he scored 153 runs at an average of 21.9. On a scale of 1 to 100, he got a 47 out of 100.

SRH paid INR 8.50 crore for right-handed top-order batter Tripathi, whose base price was INR 40 lakh. After playing for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG) and later for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders, he has been a consistent player in the Indian Premier League (KKR).

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a bidding war with SRH for Tripathi’s services, but the Hyderabad-based club won the battle.

KKR’s march to the IPL finals last season would not have been possible without Tripathi.

Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani (GT) and Priyam Garg (SRH) were both purchased by Indian teams for a total of INR 2.6 crore and INR 20 lakh, respectively. The auction for batter Rajat Patidar ended up being a flop.

Both Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav were signed by Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, respectively.

Punjab Kings paid INR 5.25 crore for Rahul Chahar. Amit Mishra, an Indian spinner, was not purchased at auction.

Delhi Capitals (DC) selected Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur for INR 10.75 crore and Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for INR 2 crore.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (INR 4.2 crore) and T Natarajan (INR 4 crore) were purchased by SRH.

For INR 10.75 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. All-rounder Deepak Hooda of the Indian national cricket team was purchased by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 5.75 crore, while Harshal Patel was acquired by Royal RCB for INR 10.75 crore.
