Jay Shah: BCCI continues to host the ICC T20 World Cup.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the board would make T20 World Cup an unprecedented success without turning the stone unturned.

The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah said on Monday that the “safety of actors and other stakeholders” is the key cause for moving the ICC T20 World Cup to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). “We wanted to teach you that we talked to ICC on this issue and had a number of rounds of internal discussions,” Jay Shah said in a letter to all BCCI members. “After much discussion, the safety of players and other players was decided to play a crucial role and it is important that we move the ICC T20 World Cup to the United Arab Emirates.

“It was not an easy decision and we mulled over it for months, constantly keeping an eye on the COVID situation all along. However, with the Second Wave causing such devastation, the decision ultimately reduced players and organizers to safety and well-being. We could have wanted nothing more than host this prestigious tournament in India, but it wasn’t,’ the letter continued.

Earlier, the ICC had clarified that BCCI would maintain tournament hosting rights even if it moved from India. The BCCI Secretary confirmed that due to the board’s “prior experience in hosting IPL in UAE,” BCCI is still hosting the ICC T20 World cup.

“On the brighter side the BCCI remains the host for the ICC T20 World Cup and we can say for sure that its hosting is smooth, and the BCCI will make no stone unmistakable for its success,” he said.

“We thank you for your continuing support, and hope that you, as you did in the past, will also provide your uncompromising support in this area,” he added.

In the meantime, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will also be completed in the UAE. ANI has reported that the IPL will take place on 19 September and the final on 15 October.
