All eyes will be on Virat Kohli the batter as India hosts the West Indies for three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals beginning Sunday. Prior to India’s recent tour of South Africa, Kohli stepped down as the team’s T20I and Test captain and was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the team’s ODI captain. When India plays the Windies in a three-match ODI series, Kohli will try to snap his two-year century drought in international play. Additionally, the veteran batsman is aiming for another personal milestone in the one-day series against West Indies.
Only Virat Kohli has scored more than 5,000 runs in one-day internationals (ODIs) in his home country.
Only one other Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, has amassed 5,000 or more runs in ODIs.
On his 121st innings against West Indies, Sachin became the first Indian player to score 5,000 runs in one-day internationals.
On the other side, if Kohli gets to score 6 runs in the first one-day international on Sunday, he will have achieved the accomplishment in his 96th ODI innings in India.
COVID-19 was found in seven members of the Indian camp, including four players (Shreyas Iyer and Navdeep Saini) who tested positive. Mayank Agarwal was added to India’s ODI team earlier this week.
All three one-day internationals will be staged in Ahmedabad without spectators, with the first ODI taking place on February 6.
India will play its 1000th 50-over contest in Sunday’s opening ODI, a record for any side.
