Australia has selected Dan Christian, Cameron Green, Ashton Turner, Ben McDermott, and Wes Agar to join the national team for the West Indies and Bangladesh men’s white-ball cricket tours.
The preliminary list of players for the West Indies and Bangladesh men’s white-ball tours has been boosted by the inclusion of Ben McDermott, Dan Christian, Cameron Green, Ashton Turner, Wes Agar, and Nathan Ellis on the Cricket Australia national selection panel’s (NSP) preliminary list. But no word yet on whether the tours will go ahead as Cricket Australia stated that agreement on bio-security arrangements and relevant government approvals are still being finalized. Both Christian and McDermott have recently been added to the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire squads, and are expected to return to Australia this week after finishing their two-week quarantine period, which is required before international players are cleared to travel for the Caribbean in late June.
Cricket Australia has announced a 23-player extended list that includes several players who took part in the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in the coming weeks.
Managing the health and well-being of players during the pandemic remained CA’s top priority, according to Trevor Hohns, the nation’s selector.
“We are delighted to recall Ben, Dan, Cameron, and Ashton, and welcome Wes and Nathan onto the preliminary list of players for the scheduled Australian men’s tours of the West Indies and Bangladesh,” Hohns said in CA release.
A proven match-winner and particularly in the T20 format, Ben is confident that he will continue to improve. The senior national team vice-captain has worked tirelessly to improve his game and, at age 26, we believe his best cricket is still ahead of him. Dan, in career-best form, was an essential member of the Sydney Sixers’ BBL-winning squad and was one of the stars of the tournament. His inclusion demonstrates the tremendous commitment that he has shown over the years.
Both Cameron and Ashton made their ODI debuts last summer against India and the NSP believes they have tremendous potential in white and red-ball formats.
According to Hohns, in BBL, ‘Wes and Nathan’ (BBL players who contributed the most with the most number of wickets) were amongst the leading wicket-takers. Australian players NSP personnel view them as players who have the potential to make a significant international impact. The six members of the Australian men’s squad that were added to the team following discussions with the first preliminary squad for the West Indies and Bangladesh tours were, according to Hohns.
Australia and the West Indies will face off in five T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals in July.
