Dhawan: Great honor for me as the Indian Team Captain

Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian side for a white ball series has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Indian white-ball squad led by Shikhar Dhawan arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday. In three ODIs and as many T20Is India and Sri Lanka will face each other in early July 13. Rahul Dravid is India’s tour’s head coach. All-rounder Hardik Pandya shared a picture of the Indian contingent’s arrival in Sri Lanka in his Instagram story. “Touchdown Sri Lanka,” the story he entitled. Like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, many more young people have a debut for India in the series in Sri Lanka.

In the meantime, the BCCI tweeted the photos of the arrival of players to Colombo, “Touchdown Sri Lanka.”

Dravid said Sunday he hoped the white ball squad could perform well to knock selectors’ doors at a call-up for the T20 World Cup that will take place later this year.

“As you said, there are rightly many people in the team who push for places or want to cement their positions in the T20 World Cup. But the key objective for everyone in the team and the team is to try and win the series, we had debates.

“That’s the main goal. We will be out there to win the series. Hopefully, people will be able to perform well in our attempts to win the series, and knock the selectors’ doors.” Dravid said in reply to an ANI request at Sunday’s pre-departure press conference.

Dhawan will donate the captain’s hat for the limited-over series against Sri Lanka. Speaking for the first time about leading the side, Dhawan said: “It is, therefore, a great honor for me to be captain of the Indian team.”

“I look forward to it. I once played under the coaching of Rahul Dravid. I was India A captain at the time. I think we guys think together, look forward to the series, look for positive things and a happy environment where boys can express themselves and we get the best out of them.”
