The batter for England and Surrey, Ollie Pope, was given five bonus runs.

The match between Essex and Surrey was in progress at the Oval when the event occurred during a break in play in Division One of the County Championship.

The skill of catching in cricket is one that requires practice and concentration. The top fielders in the game, time and time again, have dropped easy catches. In their haste to make a simple catch, some people may even create a comedy of blunders. While playing Essex in the current County Championship Division One match at the Oval, England and Surrey batsman Ollie Pope was given five additional runs. When Surrey batted for the first time on Day 3, the incident occurred while Pope was at the plate.

Essex fast bowler Jamie Porter delivered a pitch that was just long enough to lure Pope into a drive.

As it happened, the ball took a thicker than usual edge and flew directly to the second slip runner, who dove to make the grab but fell to the ground.

Five more runs were scored for Pope as the ball went on to hit the keeper’s helmet from behind.

The footage was uploaded to the official County Championship Twitter page.

“It hurts enough to miss a catch…

It’s not fair that we have to give up 5 p.i.r “said the caption.

After being put in to bat at the Oval, Essex scored 271 runs thanks in large part to a century from Adam Rossington.

Will Jacks responded with 150 not out, helping Surrey to 319 and a 48-run lead.

During lunch on the third day, Essex was leading Surrey by 70 runs, with a score of 118 for 3.

At the time of the last out, Nick Browne had 45 runs and Dan Lawrence had 28.

Currently, Surrey is at the top of Division One, while Essex is in the fourth position, behind second-place Hampshire and third-place Lancashire.
