Smriti Mandhana, the batting talisman for the Indian women’s cricket team, has added another achievement. When she batted in the second ODI against England on Wednesday, the fashionable left-handed opening hitter became the third Indian woman to reach the milestone of 3000 runs in ODI cricket.

Mandhana, who had scored 91 in the series-opening game to win it, modeled her performance after Mithali Raj and current India captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

She surpassed Mithali’s record of 88 innings by a significant margin when she reached the milestone in her 76th innings, becoming the fastest Indian to the mark.

Currently, Mandhana is ranked third overall, behind two Australian legends, Belinda Clark (62) and Meg Lanning (64).

Mandhana has just surpassed legends like Mithali and Harmanpreet as India’s most productive batter across all formats.

The teenage Shafali Verma and her opening pair have frequently helped India to large scores.

Mandhana was a crucial member of the squad that placed second in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup, won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and finished second in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
