KL vs ENG Rahul was penalized 15% of his match fee for violating the ICC code of conduct at the Oval.

On Sunday, KL Rahul was penalized 15% of his match fee for “showing disagreement” at the umpire’s decision to dismiss him in the second innings of the fourth Test against England at The Oval. Rahul was 46 when he edged a James Anderson delivery to Jonny Bairstow in the opening session on Saturday. However, England reviewed the ruling and replays indicated an advantage, therefore the umpire’s original judgment was overturned.

Rahul went away, dissatisfied with the decision.

According to Rahul, he “showed dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match” (ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, Article 2.8).

Rahul would also receive one demerit point, the ICC stated. His first infraction in 24 months.

A formal hearing was not required because Rahul admitted the charges.

Rahul’s 46 helped India get off to a fantastic start in the second innings at the Oval, with Rohit Sharma scoring a century and Cheteshwar Pujara scoring a half-century.

With Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, India lead England by 171 runs.

Rahul has been in superb form this series, only Joe Root and Rohit Sharma have scored more runs.

Rahul has scored 315 runs in the series thus far at an average of 42.85.
